Layercake Linen Overalls
Regular price £219.00 Layercake sizes run from 0 - UK8-12 to 3 - UK 22-26 (0-3 = US6-22)
So please check your measurements against our sizes before you order.
The sizing of the overalls can be a little more involved, so please also read the product description for an explanation.
Details
Our overalls come in the usual 4 Layercake sizes. Their length can be adjusted quite substantially at the shoulders, which ensures they can be worn full-length by bodies measuring from 5'2" to 5'10". On shorter frames, there is the option to turn up the legs (they have a 8" facing to enable easy folding/rolling and this also adds to their drape).
August fabric update: we have run out of stock of Fig Cross-weave Linen, so only any in-stock Overalls are available to order in Fig.
The key deciding factor for size is whether the opening at the waist fits over your hips. In the size guide, you can see the measurement of the garment and the corresponding body measurement. As you can see, the body can be larger in circumference than the garment, it will pull on fine and the actual hip measurement of the garment is a lot bigger, so it will easily fit the max hip measurement for each size. “MY CHOICE" colour requests and how to order them:
This option allows you to pick a Layercake Linen colour that is not standard for this garment. We will then make this garment in your choice of colour.
Please note: we are out of stock of Pinstripe and Violet, so please refrain from choosing either of those. Bitter Lime is back in stock!
To order:
- Pick a colour from the big picture with the list of names and swatches.
- Select the colour "my choice", select your size, then add to cart.
- On the Cart page, type the colour of your choice in the "Note to The Slow Wardrobe" box.
- Check out as usual.
If a certain fabric/size shows the "add to bag" option, then there are 2 possibilities:
1. We have some ready-made in stock (shown directly above the "add to bag" button).
2. It is a pre-order, i.e. we have to make it for you. If this is the case, you will be able to put it in your cart and order it, and you'll realise that we won't be able to ship immediately (pre-orders usually take between 2-4 weeks, up to 6 weeks during very busy times like Oct-Nov)
PLEASE NOTE: standard-sized made to order garments CAN be returned for a refund!
If you need an outfit for a special occasion, please contact me BEFORE placing your order to ensure it can be made and shipped to reach you in time.
If we have run out of stock AND fabric, it will show as "No longer available" and you will not be able to add it to your cart, it truly is all gone.
Layercake sizes
Layercake follows a different sizing system, recognising that the traditional system of "ladies dress- sizes" does not account for body shape and height. Read more about the background to this HERE.
Layercakes are designed to fit a very wide range of sizes and heights, from a UK size 10 to 28. Check these garment measurements to give you an idea of their dimensions.
Overalls
These come in 4 sizes - their length is variable by changing the ties at the top of the bib:
Layercake size |
Garment waist cm/in* |
Garment hip cm/in |
Side length cm/in** |
0 | 98 / 39 | 122 / 48 | 112/44 |
1 |
110 / 43 | 137 / 54 | 112/44 |
2 | 128 / 50 | 152 / 60 | 114/45 |
3 | 144 / 56 | 168 / 66 | 114/45 |
* The Overalls are a pull-on style, so your hip measurement should be no more than 3in above the waist measurement of the garment or you may struggle to get them on!
**The Overalls are mean to be worn high-waisted, with the top of the side-seam to be level with your mid-riff ("bra-band" level).
Custom sizes
We do everything we can to be truly size-inclusive. We can highly individualise your Layercake, by adapting the standard fit and/or choosing a non-standard fabric/colour.

Linen Care & Washing Instructions
Every Layercake has washing labels sewn into them, usually in the left side-seam. All our linen is pre-shrunk, unless stated otherwise and can be machine-washed at 40º C and either line-dried or machine-dried. If you machine-dry them, take them out of the dryer as soon as it finishes and hang them up straightaway, then you will not have to iron them.
Our Linen
Linen is one of the world's strongest textiles and most sustainable fashion choices, creating zero waste as every part of the plant is used (for textiles and food). Our linen is all European grown, yarn-dyed and woven especially for us, then boil-washed to pre-shrink it.

Wearability
Linen is not only a Summer fabric, it is also a natural insulator, providing warmth when it is needed and offering the perfect base for a layered look, trapping air between the layers to keep you cozy year-round.
